Rules in Domain Registration

A domain name registry, also called Network Information Centre (NIC), is part of the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet which converts domain names to IP addresses.

Domain names are managed under a hierarchy headed by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), which manages the top of the DNS tree by administrating the data in the root nameservers.

Domain Registration Rules:

In order to complete the registration proccess you are required to accept and agree to our Registration Agreement. In Addition, each domain has it’s own basic rules:

General Rules for all extensions

  • A Domain Name can contain only Roman (English) letters, numbers and a hyphen “-”.
  • The domain name must start and end with a letter or a number. Hyphens can not be located at the end or the beginning of a name.
  • You can not use spaces.
  • A domain name is not case sensitive.

Specific provisitions according to the extensions

.com, .net, .org, .info

  • Global extensions recommended for commercial and personal sites
  • Domain names can be up to 63 characters long, not including the extension characters.

Note

  • Certain browsers, email programs and other web related applications may not support domain names over 26 characters.

.biz

  • Global extensions – is suitable only for business sites

The following restrictions should be abide when registering a .BIZ domain name:

The .biz domain can only be used for a “bona fide business or commercial use”. A bona fide business use is one of the following:

  1. To exchange goods, services, or property of any kind;
  2. In the ordinary course of trade or business; or
  3. To facilitate
    1. The exchange of goods, services, information, or property of any kind; or,
    2. The ordinary course of trade or business.

Registering a domain name solely for the purposes of:

1.      Selling, trading or leasing the domain name for compensation, or

2.      The unsolicited offering to sell, trade or lease the domain name for compensation

Does not constitute a bona fide business or commercial use” of that domain name.

For illustration purposes, the following do not constitute a “bona fide business or commercial use” of a domain name:

1)      Using or intending to use the domain name exclusively for personal, noncommercial purposes; or

2)      Using or intending to use the domain name exclusively for the expression of noncommercial ideas

3)      (i.e., registering Xsucks.biz exclusively to criticize or otherwise express an opinion on the products or services of X company, with no other intended business or commercial purpose).

  • Domain names can be up to 63 characters long, not including the extension characters

Note

.tv

  • Recommended for Television and Media related sites, and also for other commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain names must have less than up to 63 characters, not including the .tv extension.

.co.il, .org.il

  • Israeli extensions – recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not be shorter than 3 characters or above 23, not including the .CO.IL, .ORG.IL extensions.

.ws

  • The WebSite extension – recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names must contain between 4 and 23 characters, not including the .WS extension.

.cc

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names must contain between 3 and 46 characters, not including the .CC extension.

.fm

  • Recommended for Multimedia and Radio sites.
  • Domain Names must contain between 4 and 23 characters, not including the .fm extension.

.to

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not contain more then 23 characters, not including the .TO extension.

.at

  • An extension which is frequently refered to as the preposition ‘at’ (for example: buy.at)
  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain names can be up to 63 characters long, not including the extension characters.

.ac

  • Recommended for academic and education institutions.
  • Domain Names must contain between 3 and 23 characters, not including the .ac extension.

.ro

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not contain more then 22 characters, not including the .ro extension.

.li

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names must contain between 3 and 24 characters, not including the .li extension.

.tc

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not contain more then 22 characters, not including the .tc extension.

.vg

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not contain more then 22 characters, not including the .vg extension.

.ms

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not contain more then 22 characters, not including the .ms extension.

.gs

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.
  • Domain Names can not contain more then 22 characters, not including the .gs extension.

.tf

  • Recommended for commercial and personal sites.

Domain Names can not contain more then 22 characters, not including the .tf extension.
